If you met Melissa Davis you would want to train with her. She attacks every race with equal parts laser focus, utter determination, and laugh-out-loud humor. Last winter, when Boston was paralyzed with record cold and snow, Melissa would give you 10 hilarious reasons why you should still get outside and run with her. Her hysterical race photos are legendary. And this summer she kept her teammates laughing all weekend as they persevered through the grueling 200 mile Reach the Beach relay course. But Melissa will be the first to tell you her outlook hasn’t always been so positive.

In addition to being a fierce athlete, Melissa is also the mother of 4 young children. After giving birth to her twins 5 years ago, Melissa was diagnosed with postpartum depression and postpartum PTSD. She took up running as part of her treatment. In those few short years she has not only become an accomplished runner, finishing the Boston Marathon this past spring, but she has also begun competing in triathlons as well. Of course, completing a triathlon is a great accomplishment. So it speaks volumes to say that Melissa qualified for and competed at the USA Triathlon National Championships this past summer.

As the accomplishments continue to pile up, Melissa will tell you that surviving PPD is one of her greatest. She now realizes life is “fragile and joyous” and is driven to “always push past her comfort zone.” Next up for Melissa is the Key West Half Marathon in January. She’s hoping for a PR and has been training hard to make it happen. No matter what the outcome is, there are 2 things you can count on. 1.) Melissa will give it her all and 2.) The pictures will be hilarious!
